Acellent manufactures three types of modular systems for Structural
Health Monitoring (SHM) - active, passive and combined passive/active.
Using the latest technology for waveform generation and data acquisition,
Acellent's SMART Suitcase™ hardware interfaces with the SMART Layer®
sensor network and utilizes Acellent's intelligent software to provide
these completely robust and integrated Structural Health Monitoring
systems.
In a SmartComposite Active system, the SMART Suitcase™ can be used to automatically
instruct actuators to generate preselected diagnostic signals and
transmit the signals to neighboring sensors whose response can then
be interpreted in terms of damage location and size or material property
changes within the structure. In a Passive system, the SMART Layer®
sensors can be used as continuously monitored sensors on the structure
to listen for impact events. The Passive/Active system combines the
impact detection capability of the passive system with the area scanning
capability of the active system to provide complete information on
impact events, damage location and extent.
