The Stanford Multi-Actuator Receiver Transduction (SMART) Layer, a patented technology from Stanford University, is an integrated thin layer with an embedded network of distributed sensors and actuators. The layers can be mounted on metallic structures and embedded in composite structures. By integrating the SMART Layer™ with Acellent software, the Acellent SMART Suitcase can monitor, in real time, the condition of the structures as well as automatically diagnose the "health" condition in terms of damage, hidden cracks, and material degradation of the structures with minimum human interference.
